Why we should play in school!

We all know how our children look forward to it so much, however we were always told when we were young that play is what you do during your break, in lessons you must be silent, focus and listen!

Focusing and listening are of course key elements to successfully learning, however so is the engagement that can be generated through playing and having fun! In our lessons in Primary it is very rare that you will find a class sat in silence working out of a textbook, they will be talking, sharing, researching, collaboration and a whole other myriad of skills that can all be embodied through play.

Research shows that when students are playing, particularly in the early formative years, they are highly engaged and motivated in what they are doing. This then lends to incredible learning opportunities.

We should be encouraging our children to play, have fun and develop, therefore put the iPad down and go have a run around and play!
