Service Learning

Service Learning
At the International School Dhaka (ISD), service learning is an integral part of the educational experience. It connects classroom learning with real-world contexts, enabling students to engage meaningfully with local and global communities.
Through sustained initiatives, students develop empathy, responsibility, and a deeper understanding of social and environmental issues while applying skills from across the IB curriculum.
ISD Service Saturdays
Service Saturdays at the International School Dhaka (ISD) are student-led initiatives designed to foster meaningful community engagement. Held regularly throughout the academic year, these sessions empower students to take active roles in service, leadership, and social impact.

What Are ISD Service Saturdays?
Service Saturdays are structured to provide consistent opportunities for students to engage with local communities. These initiatives focus on:
- Educational support for underserved communities
- Environmental awareness and clean-up campaigns

Service as action at isd
The ISD Service Market is a student-led initiative that brings together creativity, teamwork, and entrepreneurship in a meaningful, real-world setting. Through activities such as bake sales, games, and creative services, students gain hands-on experience in planning, marketing, and managing transactions while developing essential skills in leadership and collaboration.
Service Markets at ISD are purpose-driven, to raise funds that support initiatives like Service Saturdays, CAS projects, iftar events, and wider community outreach, enabling students to turn their ideas into impactful action and contribute positively to the community.
Service Learning highlights
As part of their action-based learning, our Grade 8 students organized donations of food, clothing, educational supplies, and sports materials, while also raising funds for a construction project at Panchkhola Primary School managed by Its Humanity Foundation (IHF).
They visited the school to witness the impact firsthand and formally handed over funds to support the development of sanitation facilities, while also taking part in a supervised community service activity.
ISD is proud to partner with Sajida Foundation to fight Malnutrition in Bangladesh.
During our recent 'Service Saturday', where students engage in service-led learning activities, our grade 10 and 11 students, led by SAJIDA Foundation’s Afwaza Rahman Dristy, planted nutritious vegetables like spinach and tomatoes. The project aims to provide fresh food to 100 families soon and expand to over 250 families across Bangladesh.
As part of ISD’s commitment to service learning and community engagement, Service Saturday brings together students and community partner schools for a day of collaboration, connection, and shared learning experiences.
ISD is proud to work alongside partners including It's Humanity Foundation, Solmaid, BANCAT, JAAGO Foundation, Rise and Shine Abinta Kabir Foundation, LEF For Life, Families For Children, and United For Change.
WEEK WITHOUT WALLS
Our Week Without Walls program offers students a full week of experiential and service learning from grades 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10.
All trips engage our students in real world learning situations and help them build their social and emotional skills. Students also undertake summative assessments as a direct result of the learning that occurs during the week.
Students travel to destinations including Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, Indonesia and kenya where they engage in cultural, environmental, and outdoor learning experiences designed to deepen their understanding beyond the classroom.
Through these experiences, students develop confidence, independence, collaboration, and leadership skills while building meaningful connections with their peers, teachers, and local communities.
