ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE

ISD will empower our students through innovative learning to achieve academic excellence for impactful global citizenship.

Welcome to Secondary School

In Secondary School, we offer a wide variety of courses that maintain rigor and student interest.  Optimal student-teacher ratios and in-class specialists enable us to provide opportunities to collaborate in small groups, where students are engaged in authentic inquiry and meaningful discussions.

Our students are also involved in a range of after-school activities, such as athletics, clubs and social events. Many of our teams and clubs travel within Bangladesh. There is an active and well-organized Student Council that functions on behalf of the student body and has been key in establishing a positive culture within the school.

One of our many aims is to keep parents informed of their child’s educational journey. We assign each student an advisor. This person is the key contact for parents and provides a means for communication between the school and home.

Students and teachers feel at ease in the school and appreciate working with each other. The academic, social and emotional development of each student is monitored very carefully by advisors, counselors, teachers and administration. We work closely with parents to ensure the best possible environment for our students.

It is a pleasure to be a part of such a wonderful partnership of teachers, students, parents, and community members.

Middle Years Programme

The IB Middle Years Program is a five-year program and our curriculum for Grades 6-10 – that’s our students aged 11 to 15.

The MYP builds on the inquiry-based PYP program and prepares students for the rigor of the IB Diploma Program.  The MYP curriculum is an innovative, academically challenging curriculum that aims to develop critical thinking, multilingual, conceptual learners with a range of complex approaches to learning.

MYP General regulations

The culminating experience for students in the MYP is the Personal Project, a self-directed individual project lasting approximately 8 months, in the final year of the MYP.
The Project is driven by each student's passions and interests whether it be coding a website, shooting a documentary film on social injustices or planning a cookery class.

IB Diploma Programme

The IB Diploma Program (DP) is a challenging two-year curriculum for our oldest students, aged 16 to 18 (Grades 11 and 12). It leads to a qualification that is widely recognized by the world’s leading universities. Research suggests that there are many benefits to the DP. The programme aims to develop students who have excellent breadth and depth of knowledge – students who flourish physically, intellectually, emotionally and ethically.

International learning opportunities

At ISD, we strive to provide the best experiential learning opportunities for all of our students. This includes a number of exciting international learning opportunities.

Model United Nations

Model United Nations is an academic simulation of the United Nations. Students play the role of delegates from different countries and attempt to solve real-world issues with the policies and perspectives of their assigned country. For example, a student may be assigned Bangladesh and will have to solve global topics such as air quality or climate change from the policies and perspectives of Bangladesh.

Students can attend Model United Nations conferences around the world. These conferences are organized by universities, high schools, non-profit organizations, and other educational groups. Conferences are offered for different academic levels: college and university, high school, middle school, and grade school.

Our students learn and use skills including public speaking, debate, negotiation, critical thinking, research, teamwork, leadership, and much more.

The Duke of Edinburgh's Award

On January 30, 2025, twenty ISD students set off on the Duke of Edinburgh Adventurous Journey in the breathtaking Nazimgarh Wilderness, Sylhet. This pivotal expedition is part of The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award program, fostering self-reliance, teamwork, and resilience as participants strive for their Bronze, Silver, or Gold awards.

The journey featured a range of challenging activities designed to test limits and build skills, including kayaking, trekking, cycling, and boating. Students also learned survival essentials such as setting up camp and cooking meals under the stars. A visit to a local tea plantation offered cultural insights, and ATV riding, rally games, and a meaningful school visit added layers of excitement and learning.

This transformative experience encourages participants to embrace challenges, connect with nature, and develop life skills that will stay with them long after the journey ends.

ISD College Counseling

The College Counseling Office assists students and families in identifying and applying to universities around the world. In Grades 11-12, College Counselors support students in identifying and applying to “good fit” schools. College Counselors can provide career awareness and exploration of various career paths. College Counselors are here to guide and assist throughout the college application process.
