Update from the Director
The Bangladesh government continues to be very vigilant for everyone’s health and safety as the second wave of the Covid virus is clearly underway. In that regard, we have learned that schools in Bangladesh will be online throughout the country until mid-November and longer in areas where infection rates remain high such as our area. I write today to let you know we will continue ISD instruction online until the ISD winter break beginning on 23 December. I have discussed this with several parents, with the administrative leadership team, with the Health and Safety Task Force, and with the ISD Board who understand and concur with this decision.
We hope that this announcement provides members of our community the time and flexibility to better plan their schedules for the coming two months. Once the government allows schools to open, whether it is January or beyond, ISD will begin with a hybrid plan, meaning that some students will be on-campus and some will not. To be clear, our return to on-campus learning will not mandate that students must return to campus. Any family who chooses to have their student return, however, will be required to complete a 14-day self-quarantine if they have traveled in the two weeks before the school’s reopening. Planning has been underway for a hybrid opening for months, and you will learn more about such a return once it is allowed by the government and we consider it safe.
ISD Back to School Announcement
The following message provides the three-stage plan ISD will follow for the 2020-2021 school year.
Stage 1: On 13 September, ISD opens all classes online. You will receive further details of the procedures for accessing the online instruction soon.
Stage 2: As safety and preparedness permit, a hybrid plan will begin with a limited number of students attending classes on-campus on any given day. The date for initiating the hybrid plan will be based on health and safety considerations, authoritative directions, and approval from the Bangladesh government. We intend to give a minimum of a two-week notice before any changes are made.
Stage 3: At this stage, we will begin a full time or close to full-time on-campus learning. Online learning will still be available for families who request it or if required by special circumstances.
If the infection rates lead us to interrupt any stage and resume full-time online learning, we will do so. Similarly, we will comply with Bangladesh government directives if schools are told to maintain or return to an online-only program.
More information about the specific dates and what to expect during the various stages will be provided in the coming weeks. We will make sure we support your family as best as we can, and will do everything to keep the ISD community safe and healthy.
SAT Examination Update
ISD will not host the SAT examination scheduled on 5 December 2020, considering the COVID-19 safety measures and protocols. For updates on the next available SAT test at ISD, look for updates on our website.
